Abhishek Bachchan is back in yet another release! After giving decent performances in 2 boxoffice damp squids-MAIN PREM KI DEEWANI HOON and MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST, Abhishek is back in yet another romance film. This time he teams up with his DHAI AKSAR PREM KE co-star Ashwariya Rai and to top it off the film is produced by Ramesh Sippy who had earlier worked with Abhisheks father Amitabh Bachchan in SHOLAY and SHAKTI and directed by Ramesh Sippys son debutant Rohan Sippy...with all these factors the expectations of the movie had certainly been raised....does the flick live upto these expectations..Yes and NO! KUCH NAA KAHO is definitely a watchable romance film, though the film suffers from a weak screenplay and some unwanted sequences. The film revolves around Raj (Abhishek Bachchan) who lives with his mother Dr Malhotra (Suhashini Mulay) in New York. All Rajs mother wants is for Raj to get married..but Raj won't hear of marriage since he feels that love cannot be arranged! When Raj visits India for the marriage of his cousin, his Uncle (Satish Shah) blackmails Raj into meeting some eligible girls hoping that Raj would choose one of them for marriage. To play cupid for Raj, his Uncle chooses Namrata (Aishwariya Rai) someone who Raj had already hacked off earlier. Namrata works for Raj's uncle and is also best friends with Rajs cousin sister and almost a member of the family. A series of meetings with potential brides turn into nightmares as Raj sneakily scares each one away. As fate would have it...Raj slowly starts falling in love with Namrata...only to find out that Namrata is already married with a child Adi (Master Parth Dave)....What happens next? Do Raj and Namrata end up getting together.....KUCH NAA KAHO:P..Watch and find out! As a first time director Rohan Sippy definitely knows his job and deserves full marks for making KUCH NAA KAHO. Not only for handling a mature subject, but for extracting commendable performances from his entire cast and for striking a emotional chord with the viewers for the most. He also shows his comic abilities in the first half where he manages to tickle the viewers funny bone as the sequences with Jaspal Bhatti/Hemani Shivpuri. The film is watchable from start to end and provides great entertainment as a family romance film.... Now to the minus points?!. The film screenplay is bogged down by improbabilities and scenes which just don't gel with the viewer. Also some scenes have a been there/seen that feel to it and the entire first half of the movie just drags on forever. One wishes the editor had edited some sequences out to leave a lasting impact. The biggest loop in the movie is when Ashwariyas first husband (Arbaaz Khan) comes back. One wonders why Namrata who is shown as a girl of today behave like a weak person and just accepts her husband back even though he left her for another woman for the last 7 years? Even the climax of the movie is not entirely convincing, as Arbaaz just leaves after an Ashwariyas outburst,, when he was so convinced earlier to get his family back? If not for these loops in the screenplay KUCH NAA KAHO would have been a far superior product. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that Sippy knows his job well and has done his homework.Compared to say the directors of Abhisheks earlier films like BAS ITNA SA KHWAAB HAI, SHARARAT, and MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST Sippy is leagues ahead. One can also tell that Sippy is heavily influenced by the Yashraj candyfloss aura(KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, CHANDNI and influence from others arr evident) and needs to break away from that mould and build his own niche. Rohan Sippy maybe not be as good as debutant directors such as Farhan Akhtar, Vipul Shah, John Matthew Matthan and Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra, he is still one of the better debutant directors to come out...and with some fine tuning he will go a LONG way. In terms of performances, the film belongs to Abhishek Bachchan. In a restrained role Abhishek is just great. He is begining to look more and more confident on screen. Gone is the awkwardness witnessed in his earlier films. Be it the comic sequences in the first half, or the emotional scenes in the latter...Abhishek Bachchan impresses throughout. Ashwariya Rai is good as a solo mom. No doubt Ashwariya has a meaty role here and she sink her teeth into it. The inconsistencies in the screenplay weaken the impact of her character.Nevertheless Ashwariya acts with confidence and shows her penchant in the emotional scenes.In saying this, this is no award winning performance from Miss Rai at all. Arbaaz Khan is Ok in a half baked role. He has done the "bad husband returning" stint before in his debut film DARAAR and his performance here is nothing in comparison. The supporting cast is all good.Satish Shah, Suhashini Mulay, Jaspal Bhatti, Hemani Shivpuri, Tanaaz Currim and Divya Palat all play their roles well. Master Parth Dave as Adi aka Aditya is EXCELLENT! Like Master Yash Patthak in RAHUL, Dave is a natural kid wonder and acts with confidence. Not once does he go overboard and the boy is just soo damn cute. He is instantly lovable and the sequences of bonding between Abhishek and him are a pleasure to watch. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loys music is also footapping. After DIL CHAHTA HAI, the duo have disapointed me till no end, even their ARMAAN soundtrack didnt appeal to me except a few songs. Here their soundtrack may not be great, but is definetly appealing. ACCHI LAGTI HO, TUMEIN AAJ MAINE JO DEKHA, BAAT MERI SUNAIYE and the title track are all very appealing and romantic. The picturisations of these songs are also likeable. Technically the film is good. V.Manikandans camerawork is vibrant, colourful and glossy as it should be. All up KUCH NAA KAHO is easily a watchable film once, the film is not without its fair share of flaws-specially in terms of screenplay and editing but in the end KUCH NAA KAHO is a film which is hard to dislike. 7.5 outta 10
