This year's National Awards might have been released out without much of a hype, but there was enough controversy coming along the way, with atleast 4 of the 16 member jury claiming there to be a serious foul play in the whole proceedings.

But I still think the awards have shaped up to be a really good one, and certainly the deserving ones have not been left out. And since DAMAN is still yet to release, I cannot comment on Raveena's performance but I was expecting this category go to Tabu (ASTITVA) or Vani Vishwanath (SUSANNA). But that wasn't to be!

Anu Malik gets an award, and thank god it is for his score in REFUGEE and not for anything else ( fiza, josh etc.). Though one hoped KANDUKONDEIN KANDUKONDEIN to sweep the music section, especially one for A.R.Rahman, all it could do was fetch Shankar Mahadevan best singer award.

As far as movies go, the major contenders were the Malayalam films SHAANTHAM and SAAYANAM, the tamil film BHARATHI, the bengali films UTSAV, DEKHA and hindi film PUKAR.
