FILMFARE AWARDS 2001 The so-called big awards of Bollywood is also the most fixed up of awards. The awards have always been the pleasers and always going up in airs for the support of the Kapoors, the Bachhans, and all the other hotshots of the Mumbai industries. I respect a guy like Aamir for staying away from these things, because these Award nominations does nothing but just give you the shockers..... And here are this year's SHOCKERS !!!!
ACTING DEPARTMENT First of all we see Filmfare taking a special liking to Santosh Sivan's ASOKA - Best movie, best director...remember Khalid Mohammed (editor of Filmfare) gave it a 4.5 out of 5. Another policy of these guys seems to be - give every nomination possible to the giants like Kapoors, Bachchans etc. Amitabh walks away with a nomination for AKS ??? Kareena not only gets for K3g, but also one for ASOKA ??? Urmila's performance in PTKK seems to be only good for the Best Villain category, and Saif Ali Khan's marvellous show in DCH is also fit enough to earn him a Best Comic Role nomination. And puh-lease.. since when was Aftab's performance in KASOOR so good that it could outshine Kamal's ABHAY.
MUSIC DEPARTMENT With guys who get it horribly wrong in the movie department is bound to screw it up even worse in the music department. The biggest shock is no mention of Asha Bhonsle for Radha Kaise Na Jale. Then even more shocks with Sandeep Chowtha and PTKK being shown the back door making way for lots of K3g, Sameer and Jatin Lalit. And the biggest blinder is how can someone nominate a singer (Shaan) from a song that was beautifully rendered by all three singers - Koi Kahe from Dil Chahta Hai. What was KK and Shankar doing through the song, I wonder?
Well, due to its reputed past Filmfare have been the most respected awards of Bollywood, but one thing is sure...it is the most planned and fixed too. It is high time they fix up a proper panel and get their acts together. Afterall awards should be to reward good cinema, not to promote bad cinema!
